Awarded the prestigious title of Law firm of the Year at the 2007 Lawyer awards was a fantastic achievement for Trowers & Hamlins. However, proving that it is possible to combine great business acumen with a social conscience the firm was also placed third in the Pro Bono Firm of the Year category and was named winner in the Economic Regeneration category of the Dragon Awards 2007 in recognition of the work which the firm undertakes within the local area. Combine this with achieving 52nd place in the 2008 Sunday Times Best Companies report and you will see a firm committed to giving excellent service, supporting the local community and providing a supportive environment with an emphasis on organic growth and developmental opportunities.

(London) and the closing date for applications is 1 March 2009.

As well as vacation placements we also offer the opportunity to attend an open day which is run in June. The deadline for applications is 1 March 2009.
Details of the Training Programme
The training contract is split into four six-month seats. Offering secondment opportunities in the Middle East, Manchester and Exeter alongside seats in departments ranging from Social Housing to Corporate to Litigation, it is not surprising that trainees gain a varied and interesting experience. Trainees are paired with either a senior solicitor or Partner acting as their supervisor to ensure that a suitable level of supervision is provided. Assessment takes place constantly with trainees completing both a mid seat and end of seat appraisal providing the opportunity to gain feedback and continuously progress.

Responsibility is given from a very early stage with trainees in some departments running files on their own on joining the department. Trainees are encouraged to take as autonomous a role as is possible safe in the knowledge that there is a structured support system in place to provide assistance should they require it.

Training forms an integral part of the training contract with trainee solicitors receiving departmental training every week as part of the Monday Lunchtime Training Programme. In addition to this, further training is provided covering vital skills such as presentation technique and negotiation practice.
Support
All trainees are assigned a mentor from the commencement of their training contracts to provide impartial work and career advice. In addition to this the trainee Solicitors' committee comprising the training principal, partners, HR and two trainee representatives meet bi-monthly to discuss trainee issues and providing the trainees with a forum to voice their thoughts.

Who Should Apply
We recruit 22 trainees each year split equally into a September and March intake. We are of course looking for an excellent academic record but in addition to this we recognise that there are supplementary skills required and actively seek out candidates with exceptional commercial awareness, outstanding communication skills and a genuine passion for the law. Our trainee solicitors are all individuals and we are genuinely committed to maintaining a diverse workforce as evidenced in our recent 13th place positioning in the recent league table of diversity conducted by the Law Society on behalf of the Black Solicitors' Network and the Commission for Racial Equality.

When and How to Apply
Application is via an online application which can be found here. The deadline for vacation placement applications is 1 March and for training contracts commencing in September 2010 and March 2011 applications should be submitted by 1 August.
