Together we are Clifford Chance
Clifford Chance is a leading international law firm delivering innovative and practical legal solutions to corporate, institutional, and government clients around the world. Our rapid expansion through a series of groundbreaking mergers has fostered a culture that is both pioneering and entrepreneurial, and flexible and open. Our culture emphasises the fundamental importance of teamwork to our success and of providing dynamic career opportunities for our people.
Clifford Chance’s international network of offices, which spans Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East, provides our clients with local expertise in all major markets and enables us to build effective teams across practice areas and jurisdictions. At the same time it means unmatched opportunities for international exposure for our trainees and lawyers and the very real prospect of secondments to our overseas offices and to major client organisations. Nearly 80 per cent of our trainees spend six months of their training contract in one of our overseas offices.
Clifford Chance continues to invest in its international opportunities. In the past year the firm has opened new offices in Abu Dhabi and Kyiv, and merged with our associates in Bucharest. In Singapore we gained a licence to practise local law and opened an Indian capital markets team. We intend to be in India as soon as we can and in December 2008 we formed an alliance with one of the top local firms there, AZB & Partners. The firm is succeeding in its ambition to be a leader in law worldwide, which is confirmed by the 2009 edition of Chambers Global, the authoritative annual assessment of legal skills and services. Chambers rates Clifford Chance comfortably ahead of rivals, with 15 ‘tier one’ rankings in its global tables.
Clifford Chance lawyers are engaged in all aspects of transactional, advisory and contentious law for clients around the world, helping them to adapt to the challenges and opportunities presented by a rapidly changing business environment. Our scale and reach across six global practices – Corporate, Capital Markets, Banking and Finance, Real Estate, Litigation and Dispute Resolution, and Tax, Pensions and Employment –each featuring many different teams that work together and share a deep understanding of our clients and the sectors they work in. Working within these teams will constitute the main part of your training, providing the foundations for your future career. The firm is also committed to supporting an extensive range of pro bono and community programmes where 732 lawyers, from trainees to partners, enthusiastically volunteer to participate.
Clifford Chance is a diverse community of talents. We value different perspectives and backgrounds and the contribution they can make both to our client work and to enriching our working environment. Joining our team you will be working with colleagues from many different countries, cultures and academic disciplines – around half our trainees each year have not studied law.
In selecting trainees, we are interested in your potential to become a first-class business lawyer. Intellectual curiosity and communication, analytical and team-working skills are all valuable attributes that we look for during our selection process. However, we’re also interested in you as an individual, what motivates you and which personal qualities, insights and experiences you can bring to the firm.
